Microsoft to Retire Skype for Business Online
We no longer need to speculate when Microsoft will retire Skype for Businessr. Microsoft has announced that they will retire Skype for Business Online on July 31st, 2021.
Between now and then, Microsoft has said that Skype for Business Online customers will experience no change in service or operation. Administrators should be aware that beginning in September 1st, 2019, all new customers will onboard directly to Teams for chat, meetings and calling.
Skype for Business Server and Skype will not be affected by this announcement. On a related note, Teams and Skype interop will be available in Teams in the first quarter of 2020. This announcement gives users two years of lead time, for customers with a large number of users, migrations and proper planning take time.
