Conventional thinking is that IT departments dictate the platforms and processes that an organization uses. This approach puts the cart before the horse. An effective way to develop institutional IT strategy is to wisely mine the best processes developed during less-controlled, creative periods, and incorporate selected elements into companywide strategy. These processes were sought out and tested by individuals and divisions who utilized them for a reason…they are intuitive, aligned with product creation and they work! The question is why, when and how these innovative and field tested systems should be transformed into corporate-wide strategies.
